Entering perimenopause can feel like stepping into a whirlwind of changes, often starting in a woman’s 40s (sometimes even earlier).

With hormone fluctuations come a range of physical and emotional shifts, leaving many feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, and even a little confused.

Among these changes, skin issues can take center stage and become new daily battles:

  • dryness
  • loss of elasticity
  • thinning skin
  • fine lines
  • unexpected breakouts or acne

If you’re navigating these challenges, you’re not alone!  This blog is here to guide you through the specific skin changes of perimenopause and offer simple, effective skincare strategies to address them.

The goal? To help you feel confident and comfortable in your skin, so you can focus on everything else that matters in your life.

I’m Here to Help: Let’s do this Together!

I know firsthand how frustrating perimenopausal skin changes can be, and I’m here to help you navigate these changes.

I’ve learned how to use skincare to my advantage, and I want to share these techniques with you.

We’re going to hone in on some successful strategies for handling the changes in your skin that often come with perimenopause.

The Plan: A Simple, Effective Hydrating Skincare Routine

Step 1: Layer with Intention

Layering is your friend! You don’t need a 10-step regimen—just a few high-quality products will do. This multi-step approach helps your skin absorb moisture deeply, providing the hydration it needs.

Step 2: Start with a Hydrating Cleanser

Look for gentle, hydrating cleansers rich in glycerin, fatty acids, and plant oils. Cleansing creams and milks help maintain your skin’s moisture and prep it for the products that follow.

Step 3: Use a Hydrating Toner and/or Serum

This step allows you to double up on hydration and address specific concerns. Choose toners or serums with humectants (like hyaluronic acid and glycerin) and emollients (like ceramides and plant oils) to lock in moisture.

Step 4: Moisturize with Purpose

Select a moisturizer designed to nourish and protect your skin barrier, which becomes more delicate during perimenopause. Look for ingredients like peptides, niacinamide, and fatty acids that not only hydrate but also strengthen your skin.

Step 5: Apply Sunscreen Daily

To protect your skin from further aging, apply a broad-spectrum SPF daily. If you prefer, you can use a moisturizer with SPF as long as you’re applying an adequate amount (about ¼ teaspoon for your face).

Step 6: Be Consistent

Consistency is key for long-term skin health. Try to follow this routine twice daily—morning and night—for optimal results.
