Meet Sarah. She’s always been curious about skincare but never quite knew where to start.

With so many products and steps to consider, she felt overwhelmed:

What should she use?

How often?

How much?

And why does it even matter?

When she stumbled upon this skincare guide for beginners and the Beauty and Wellness Hub community group, she realized she wasn’t alone. In the community group she found a quick start skincare guide – a straightforward, supportive plan to help Sarah (and you!) take the first steps toward a consistent skincare routine.

Lets dive in to a few tidbits from the guide and get your first taste of a simple, effective skincare plan!

Why Skincare Matters

Skincare is so much more than just creams and serums; it’s an act of self-care. We’ve been told countless times that we need to include self care in our lives and love ourselves first … skincare is an easy way to do that!

In addition to self care, there are some pretty amazing benefits of skincare! Here’s why it’s worth prioritizing:

  • Self-Care: Taking a few moments each day to care for your skin is a powerful way to focus on yourself and your well-being. It’s a ritual that can ground you in your busy day.
  • Comfort: Healthy skin feels good. It’s balanced—not too dry, not too oily—and that comfort goes a long in way in how we feel about our skin and our appearance.
  • Appearance: Whether it’s smoothing fine lines, calming blemishes, or evening out skin tone, skincare can help you look and feel your best. Confidence comes naturally when your skin feels healthy.
  • Protection: Products like sunscreen shield your skin from harmful UV rays, pollution, and environmental stressors. This isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about protecting your health.
  • Health: Proper skincare supports hydration, strengthens your skin barrier, and improves texture. Healthy skin is better able to ward off pollutants, bacteria, and irritation.
  • Consistency Pays Off: Skincare works best when used regularly. Over time, this consistency allows your skin to adapt and reap the full benefits of the products you use.

Skincare isn’t just about looking good; it’s about feeling good, staying healthy, and investing in yourself for the long run.

The Problem: Too Many Questions, Not Enough Answers

Starting a skincare routine can feel like stepping into the unknown. Should you use a toner? How do you layer products? What’s the right amount to apply? And does it really matter if you’re not consistent? It’s no wonder so many women hesitate to even begin.

Not to worry: You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers!

Skincare Basics Made Simple

A guide was created in the Beauty and Wellness Hub community group to cut through the noise and give clarity to an often confusing and overwhelming topic.

It’s there to show you that skincare doesn’t have to be complicated.

This is a snippet from the guide and a condensed version to help you start small, build confidence, and see results over time.

Step 1: Product Order

A good skincare routine starts with applying products in the correct order:

  1. Cleanser: Wash your face morning and night. If you wear makeup or sunscreen, try double cleansing at night—start with an oil-based cleanser, then follow with a water-based one. In the morning, a gentle water-based cleanser is all you need.
  2. Toner: Toners can help prep your skin for the next steps while addressing specific needs, like hydration or soothing irritation. Apply with a cotton pad or pat it directly onto your skin.
  3. Serum: Serums are concentrated treatments designed to target your skin’s goals, whether that’s boosting hydration, improving elasticity, tackling fine lines … or anything else that fits your priorities.
  4. Moisturizer: Lock in all the benefits of your earlier steps with a moisturizer tailored to your skin type. Don’t forget your neck!
  5. SPF: Always finish your morning routine with sunscreen. It’s your first line of defense against sun damage and premature aging.

Step 2: How Much to Use

Knowing how much product to apply is key to seeing results without wasting your skincare. Here are general guidelines:

  • Cleanser: About a nickel-sized amount.
  • Toner: 2–3 spritzes or shakes.
  • Serum: 3–4 drops (or about half a dropper).
  • Moisturizer: A blueberry-sized amount to cover your face and neck.

Adjust based on how your skin feels. If it’s tight or dry, you might need to use a bit more. If it feels greasy, scale back slightly.

Step 3: The Importance of Consistency

Think of skincare like going to the gym—results come with regular effort.

Products are designed to work over time, and your skin needs that consistency to adapt and respond to their benefits. Beyond physical results, maintaining a routine can become a comforting ritual, a small but meaningful act of self-care that grounds you each day.

Your Skincare Journey Starts Here

Skincare doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Start small and focus on the basics: cleansing your face and applying moisturizer twice a day. Once you’ve established that routine, you can gradually incorporate additional steps like serums or toners to address specific skin concerns.

The most important thing? Be patient and stay consistent. Change won’t happen overnight, but over time, you’ll notice smoother, healthier, and more radiant skin. You’ll feel the difference—and so will those around you. Imagine feeling great about how your skin feels! Or hearing compliments about your glowing complexion and being asked what your secret is.

That’s the reward of consistent skincare.

Take that first step today. Your skin, and your future self, will thank you.
