Linda’s Story

Meet Linda. At 55, she’s noticed changes in her skin—fine lines, dryness, and a loss of that youthful glow. She’s tried various products but feels overwhelmed by conflicting advice and complex routines. All Linda wants is to look after her skin and honor the amazing woman she is!

Linda is not alone. Many women feel uncertain about where to start and what to use.

As we age, our skin changes … a lot!  It loses elasticity, hydration and suppleness decline, and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles becomes more prominent. Mature skin needs extra care and attention, which means a more structured skincare routine can make a big difference.

Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you navigate the best order to apply your skincare products for glowing, healthy skin at any age.

Morning Routine: Prepare and Protect

  1. Cleanser
    • Start your day with a gentle, hydrating cleanser to remove any overnight impurities and prepare your skin for the day ahead. Mature skin tends to be drier, so opting for a product that cleanses without stripping away natural oils is crucial. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or ceramides.
  2. Toner
    • A toner balances the skin’s pH and preps it for better absorption of subsequent products. Choose an alcohol-free toner with soothing ingredients such as chamomile, aloe vera, or rose water.
  3. Serum
    • Serums are concentrated with active ingredients that target specific skin concerns. In the morning, choose a serum rich in antioxidants like vitamin C serum to brighten the skin and protect it from environmental damage.
  4. Eye Cream
    • The skin around the eyes is delicate and often shows the first signs of aging. An eye cream is ideal for anyone with sensitive eyes (who cannot tolerate regular moisturizers so close to their eyes) and can help reduce puffiness, dark circles, and fine lines. Look for eye creams with peptides, hyaluronic acid, and antioxidants (caffeine is also great at reducing puffiness)..
  5. Moisturizer
    • Hydration is key for mature skin. Use a rich, nourishing moisturizer to lock in moisture and keep your skin looking plump and smooth. Ingredients like shea butter, squalane, and hyaluronic acid are excellent for providing deep hydration.
  6. Sunscreen
    • Sunscreen is a non-negotiable! Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher (regardless of the weather) to protect your skin from harmful UV rays and prevent premature aging. UV exposure accelerates aging, causing wrinkles, age spots, and loss of elasticity. Look for formulas that offer added hydration and are gentle on mature skin.

Many products that can be used during the day are formulated to nourish your skin and also be conducive to applying and wearing makeup overtop. No need to forego skincare or makeup – you can have your cake and eat it too!

Night Routine: Repair and Renew

  1. Oil Based Cleanser
    • Remove makeup, sunscreen, and the day’s grime with an oil based cleanser that glides on and feels like a spa massage as you gently work it over your complexion. The oil breaks down makeup and sunscreen making for easy removal.
  2. Water Based Cleanser
    • You can use the same hydrating cleanser that you use in the morning. With your sunscreen and makeup already removed, this will penetrate deep into your pores for maximum skin cleaning power.
  3. Toner
    • You can use the same toner that you use in the morning. Apply your toner to refresh your skin and prepare it for better absorption of subsequent products.
  4. Serum
    • At night opt for a serum with retinol or peptides. These ingredients help to stimulate collagen production and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  5. Eye Cream
    • You can use the same eye cream as you do in the morning to treat the delicate skin around your eyes.
  6. Moisturizer or Night Cream
    •  At night, switch to a cream that focuses on repairing and rejuvenating your skin while you sleep. Creams that support skin barrier repair are a great option to use at night.
  7. Face Oil (optional)
    • For extra hydration, add a few drops of face oil. It can help to seal in moisture and leave your skin feeling soft and supple.

Weekly Treatments – Regenerate and Pamper

Exfoliator: Gently exfoliate to remove dead skin cells and promote cell turnover. This step is crucial for mature skin to maintain its vibrancy. Use a gentle exfoliant with alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) to avoid irritation

Mask: Treat your skin to a hydrating or anti-aging mask once a week. Masks with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, or peptides can provide an extra boost of nourishment and target specific skin concerns.
